COLIN SCOTTS AUTOBIOGRAPHY

This is more than just a book about sport. This is the story of an amazing journey by a big-hearted kid from a big-hearted Sydney family to the tough world of professional American sport and back again. Almost since his arrival as a 14-pound, two-foot long baby, Colin Scotts’s mum says he has been good with balls. Tennis balls, golf balls, basketballs – you name it. By becoming the first Australian to win a football scholarship in the States and be drafted into the NFL, Colin embarked on a road that would deliver some great times – money, travel, women, good mates – but also some setbacks and disasters testing his endurance and courage in a world where success is measured in dollars, statistics and TV ratings. It was a lonely and often brutal existence, but through it all Colin’s irrepressible spirit and Aussie humour shone through. He beat the Yanks at their own game, won friends, made enemies and well and truly left an indelible mark on the wild world of professional football. Colin’s successful ten-year career in gridiron ended suddenly and painfully in a freak injury. Shaken but unrelenting, Colin went on, amongst other adventures, to succeed in various business schemes, party with the LA crowd, join the pro-wrestling circuit, record his version of ‘Tie Me Kangaroo Down’ in Nashville, set up an NFL alumni branch for charity work, then head home in time for the Olympics in a whirlwind of controversy.
‘All Balls’ is an unputdownable adventure – sprinkled with Packers, Kennedys and supermodels – that is deeply funny, heartfelt and refreshingly honest.

  • As a former football player in Canada, who aspired to play in NFL but never made it, I found it a fascinating read. I enjoyed reading about an Aussie trying to adapt to the differences in USA from Australians having done the opposite – even though Canadians are closer to Aussies than Americans. I read it from cover to cover. An enjoyable read for all sports fans.

  • If Colin Scotts isn’t a legend in this country, why isn’t he? He should be? He is the only person in the history of our nation to have achieved on the stage of one of, if not the toughest football competition in the world. Just to make a team is special but to be an integral part of the team is incredible. The story from Sydney kid to Australian Schoolboys Rugby to the NFL shows how simple sport is here to the cutthroat, aggressive kill or be killed attitude to US professional Sport. To make it you must be exceptional. I don’t want to be in one of their change rooms. To any kid who wants to achieve in sport, academia or business in the US, you must read this.
